Austin McNair
Plans his Work and Works his Plan

Austin McNair

Atlanta – Austin McNair is making high grades, leading on and off campus, plus volunteering his way through college. An all-around student, Austin is the recipient of a MARCH Foundation Scholarship through the Bill Dickey Scholarship Foundation.

The financial support of the MARCH Foundation allows the rising senior to focus on his studies full-time at Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition, he enjoys recruiting prospective students to the campus. He serves as vice president of the Georgia Tech chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).

Austin, 20, is majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He is spending Summer 2015 interning in the Boston office of The Parthenon Group, a global strategy consultancy that recently joined EY.

The summer opportunity builds upon Austin’s previous internships with Proctor & Gamble, Exxon Mobile, General Mills and Boston Consulting Group.

Austin attributes his drive for excellence to his immediate family and extended family. He is the son of Darrell and Ronna McNair of Cleveland, OH.

“I want to be able to get my education, something that no one can take away from me, to put me in a position to give back to my family and inspire people to achieve greatness in whatever they do,” Austin said.

“I have an end goal in sight, and I'm going to put in what it takes to get there. Many people have helped me along the way and I am going to do the same for the next person.”

Post-graduation goals

My plan is to graduate May 2017 then work for one of the Big 3 consulting firms, land an international assignment, pursue a Harvard Business School MBA, then partnership.

Advice to incoming freshmen

Plan early a Study Abroad experience in your academic plan. Also don't be afraid to get perspectives from upperclassmen about what classes to take, they've been through it before and many of them may know best about the actual workload.
