Glen Mills School Receives Grant

The Glen Mills School in Glen Mills, PA (a Philadelphia suburban community) received a $5000 grant to go towards scholarships for students to attend nearby Cheney University. Founded in 1837, Cheney is known as the first institution for higher learning for African Americans.
The Glen Mills School, which was founded in 1826, was originally incorporated as the Philadelphia House of Refuge. To this day Glen Mills is the oldest existing school of its type in the country, providing service to troubled youth. The mission of the school is to help these young people get their lives back on track and to go on to becoming productive members of our communities.
Don McNeal, Glen Mills Director of Support Services comments, “The MARCH Foundation grant gives our students the opportunity to attend college. Most of our students come from impoverished neighborhoods. Sometimes our students are the first ones in their family to attend college. This grant will provide them with scholarship money that gives them a tremendous opportunity that they normally would not have. We are very appreciative and thankful that the MARCH Foundation has awarded a grant that will help our students attend Cheyney University.”
